Don Cook's 429 SCJ  Mach 1

In 1988,  I was working away from home and found myself with nothing to do one evening so I went cruising the streets of the small town we were staying in. I had been keeping my eyes open for a black on black  4 speed Torino with a shaker hood. As I rolled down this one street I passed a small house and garage with the back end of this car sticking out of the open door. Naturally, I had to stop and investigate. The car was just back from the paint shop and was owned by a mechanic who had just completed rebuilding just about everything. He figured he had had enough of working on it and was going to put a for sale sign in it the next day. The deal was quickly made and instead I drove it home the next day. It had air shocks, wide tires on the old aluminum slot rims, Hooker big tube headers that leaked, aftermarket Hurst shifter with 2 colors of carpet and no console. I drove it for a couple of months and then it got put away in storage, unintentionally, for the next 15 years only coming out twice for wedding car duty. At Christmas in 2003, someone showed me how to turn on a computer and surf the www. My first stop was the popular auction site. My second was the 429 Mustang Megasite. Thank you to all of those involved for an incredible, invaluable place. It has both cost and saved me much time and grief in a very good way. I keep finding little pieces here and there and always try to keep it as close to turn key as possible for whenever the big block 4 speed urge hits. I  also found the Torino that I was looking for but that's a different story.
